Would you like to be a
Pack 5 Tiger Cub?
The
earliest you can join Cub Scouts is after June 1 of
the year you graduate from Kindergarten. You're now
a first-grader, and you can be a part of our "Tiger Cub"
Den.
Together with other
boys close to your own age, you'll meet every week
or so to learn the basics of being a Cub Scout. Your
parents will agree on the best schedule at the start
of the school year.
The first "rank" you'll earn is
"Bobcat," which is the blue patch you can see on the
left here.
One of the parents of a boy in your
group will be your "Den Leader." He or she will have
help from all of the other parents, too; we call
those parents "Adult Partners." Tiger Cub parents
are very involved with their sons in Scouting at
this level.
The Tiger Cub
Patch
Now, guided by your Den Leader,
you'll work to earn your next rank: The Tiger Cub
patch. That's the orange one at the top-left side of
this page. It may take you and your Den until the
end of your first-grade school year to complete all
of the important requirements of this. But you don't
have to wait that long for awards: Until you earn
your Tiger Cub patch, you'll wear a "Totem" like the
one shown at the bottom-left side of this page. Each
time you take a little step toward your Tiger Cub
rank, you'll get a colored bead to wear on your
Totem so that everyone who sees it will know about
the progress you're making.
Tiger Cubs also get to come to all of
our "Pack Meetings" and many of our Pack events. A
Pack Meeting is where all the boys in Pack 5 get
together in one place: First through fifth graders.
Sometimes we play games or have special guests come
in for entertainment. The Pack Meeting is also where
we give out our major awards and hear about what
each Den has been doing since we last met.
Pack Meetings
Pack Meetings are also important for
your parents. Sometimes they will stick with us for
the entire program. Other times, they will leave for
a time to get some grown-up information about the
work of Pack 5. Pay close attention at the Pack
Meeting, because this is often where you'll learn
about even more exciting things you can do as a Cub
Scout!
